What is “ear notching”?
An ear notch on a cat’s ear allows us to physically identify if the cat has been spayed/neutered. If you have rescued a cat and plan on releasing the cat back out, it is important to get his/her’s ear notched at the time of the spay/neuter surgery. Some doctors cut across the cat’s ear and some do a V-shaped tip.
Well, I know it has been fixed..so it doesn’t matter.
Sure, you know that you got that cat fixed but what if that cat came up to another person’s house or trap? He/she will assume that it hasn’t been fixed yet because it doesn’t have an ear notch. So if you are releasing the cat back outdoors (if you’re not owning the cat and ESPECIALLY if it’s feral), please remember to get an ear notch for the cat! In addition, it would be traumatic for the cat to go under the surgery table AGAIN!
Cats Exclusive’s Spay/Neuter Clinic offers ear notching as a free service. Please notify us when you fill out the paper work/drop off the cat that you would like his/her’s ear notched.
